Today, we’ll answer some common questions about this popular package.

What should I expect during my initial consultation?

During your consultation, we’ll review your medical history, examine your areas of concern, and devise a surgically feasible treatment plan.

Generally, what does the Mommy Makeover surgery entail?

Pregnancy most seriously impacts the breasts and belly, so a Mommy Makeover will include one or all of the following: breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, abdominoplasty and liposuction. If there is breast volume loss from pregnancy and breastfeeding, this can be remedied with the addition of a breast implant. Alternatively, if the breasts are excessively large and causing discomfort, the size may be reduced. The abdominal muscles can be tightened via abdominoplasty (also known as a “tummy tuck”), which strengthens the midsection and narrows the waist. Lastly, the excess lower abdominal skin with stretch marks will be removed as well as any excess fat. The procedures will be done in one or two stages, depending on how many areas need to be addressed.

What’s the best time to have a Mommy Makeover?

We recommend waiting until no more pregnancies are planned and a stable weight has been achieved – especially regarding the abdominoplasty. While additional pregnancies are possible following this surgery, your results will be better if the tissues aren’t stretched again.

What if I’ve had a Cesarean or hysterectomy?

This won’t pose a problem, as the incision for the abdominoplasty is at the same level on the lower abdomen. Some women have bothersome extra skin that hangs over their caesarean section or hysterectomy scar. During an abdominoplasty, your old C-section or hysterectomy scar is removed.

How can I best prepare for this surgery?

It’s important you understand why you are having the procedure, what exactly will be performed, and what your results are likely to be. All patients should be nicotine-free for at least six weeks prior to and after surgery, and any medical issues like high blood pressure should be controlled before surgery. We provide a comprehensive pre- and post-surgical care regimen which may include vitamin therapy, accelerated wound healing treatments and scar reduction therapy for better and faster results.

    Where are the incisions?

The location of incisions will depend on your chosen procedures and the techniques utilized. In general, for a breast lift, there is a circular incision around the areola which is carried straight down toward the fold under the breast. Placement of an implant (augmentation) can be done through this same incision if needed. For the abdominoplasty, there is a linear incision from hip bone to hip bone which can be hidden under the bikini line. Depending on the type of abdominoplasty, there may or may not be a circular scar around the belly button, as well.

    Will I have scars?

Yes. It’s not possible to perform these operations without making incisions and leaving scars. That being said, it is our goal to leave the finest, smallest scar possible via careful operative technique and attention to scar management post-operation. We will instruct you how to minimize the scars and help them fade over time.

    What’s the recovery time?

Recovery time will vary depending on the types of surgeries chosen and whether the breast, abdomen, or both are addressed.

    What can I expect post-surgery?

Most patients go home after surgery, some decide to recover in an aftercare facility, and a few hire an at-home nurse to assist in the recovery. Walking and movement are encouraged as soon as you get home. Most patients are restricted to their homes the first week.

7-10 days post-surgery: Patients usually start to drive.4 weeks post-surgery: You’ll likely feel that you’ve recovered.6-8 weeks post-surgery: You may return to aerobic workouts and more strenuous exercises.2-3 months post-surgery: The final cosmetic result will be visible.

Can I care for my kids during recovery?

For the first week after surgery, it is helpful to have friends or family assist you in caring for children. In most cases, recovery can range from 1-4 weeks.

How much time will I need to take off from my desk job?

The average is 2-4 weeks, although some women feel better sooner and choose to return to work as quickly as one week after surgery. Patients are asked to refrain from heavy lifting for two months.
